The Northern Irish city of Derry~Londonderry is one of the most-anticipated Stopovers on the race, with the many lively pubs, exciting live-music scene, and plenty of 'craic’ delighting crews for the last four editions. The fleet of eleven 70-foot yachts will have battled an awe inspiring 40,000 nautical miles and six ocean crossings before arriving in the heart of Derry-Londonderry.

Whether they arrive in the middle of the night to disembark in time for traditional fry-up breakfast, or in the late afternoon ready for a festival vibes, you can experience the atmosphere as Race Crew step back on land after a thrilling race across the world’s most furious oceans.

FREE- VISIT THE FLEET AND TOUR A RACE YACHT: 20-22 JULY

Step on board a Clipper 70; one of eleven in the world’s largest matched fleet of ocean racing yachts. Your tour above and below deck is led by members of the Clipper Race crew who have raced around 3,000 nautical miles from New York to be your host.

Life on board the stripped down ocean racing yachts is not for the faint hearted and no luxury. This is an ideal opportunity to discover for yourself what it takes to become an ocean racer with the Clipper Race.

The Foyle Maritime Festival will run for nine consecutive days and will transform the Foyle Port into an international marina visited by thousands of people daily. Visitors will be spoiled by the packed programme of water activities, boat tours, food stalls, and music and theatre performances, with the event culminating in a breathtaking showcase event on the River Foyle.

As Ireland’s only completely walled city, Derry~Londonderry will be celebrating Walls 400, to celebrate 400 years since the completion of the walls, until March 2020. A walk of the walls is a must-do for any visit to Derry~Londonderry, with a tour also a chance to view both the historic murals of Bogside and the new artwork paying tribute to show ‘Derry Girls’.

Derry~Londonderry is known as the Gateway to the Northwest and is famous for the dramatic land and seascapes within its hinterland, many of which have been the backdrop to films and tv shows including Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Game of Thrones. The region also features several championship golf courses and the Giants Causeway UNESCO World Heritage Site.
