Washington, DC - Oban
Stage 12 : Oban’s race to Argyll and the Isles
Key features: Final ocean crossing, return to the UK celebrations
Stage 12 takes Race Crew on a 3,115nm passage from Washington, DC, USA to Oban, Scotland, where crews can expect a typical Scottish welcome after the final ocean crossing of the race edition.
Conditions are expected to favour fast reaching and downwind sailing across the North Atlantic. Teams will contend with the influence of the Gulf Stream, where favourable currents can boost boat speeds, and sharp temperature gradients can generate dense fog.
Success on this stage will depend on positioning to take advantage of the low-pressure systems that form off the US East Coast and track across the Atlantic, delivering fast, exhilarating sailing and potentially challenging conditions before a picturesque approach into Oban.
