Seattle, USA - Panama

Stage 10: Warrant's West Coast Challenge

Key features: Downwind & tactical sailing, varied conditions, heat.

Stage 10 takes Race Crew from Seattle, USA, south along the Pacific coast to Panama. Departing the west coast of the United States, the fleet heads into a fast-paced downwind race, passing along North and Central America towards the tropics. This stage presents a mix of conditions, from strong breezes and coastal influences in the north to lighter winds and rising heat closer to the Equator. Crews must balance speed with strategy, navigating changing weather patterns and making key tactical decisions as they progress south. The arrival into Panama marks the gateway to the Atlantic, as the fleet prepares for transit through the Panama Canal and entering back into its home waters.

OBR Update 📸

Life lately on board Team Warrant

The race from Seattle to Panama is notoriously a tricky stage of the circumnavigation, filled with fickle winds, intense heat and tight deadlines. Here’s a peek beneath the hatches of Team Warrant and what life has been like for the past few days…

Stage 10 Racing Results

We have a winner!

The Finish Line for Stage 10: Warrant’s West Coast Challenge has been set, and so far, we have six boats on the stage leaderboard. Congratulations to:

1st | Team GOSH

2nd | Team Power of Seattle Sports

3rd | Team London Business School

4th | Team Yacht Club Punta Del Este

5th | Team Warrant

6th | Team UNICEF

The Race Management Team made the decision that the Finish Line for Stage 10: Warrant’s West Coast Challenge be retrospectively called at Mandatory Finish Gate 1. This decision has been driven by incredibly light conditions that have plagued the fleet for the past week.

Stage 10 offers a unique challenge on the race circuit as there are seven Mandatory Finish Gates in place along the route towards Panama. These virtual gates are present on the latter section of the racecourse as the stretch past Central America to Panama is notorious for fickle wind due to the doldrums or ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone). Any of the Mandatory Finish Gates can be selected as a Finish Line by the Race Management Team to ensure the fleet can meet the tight deadlines set by the Panama Canal transits.

We would like to congratulate GOSH, Power of Seattle Sports and London Business School for their podium positions and well done to the teams that have already crossed Mandatory Finish Gate 1 for their completion of racing on Stage 10. Full results will be announced once all yachts have crossed.

Stage 10 | Ocean Sprint Results

Drum roll please...

📣 Ocean Sprint results for Stage 10: Warrant’s West Coast Challenge in collaboration with Hyde Sails 📣

“After days of light conditions causing slow speeds across the fleet, the northerly wind finally decided to build some momentum as the front of the fleet entered the Ocean Sprint. Making a fast crossing was tactically challenging as the northerly wind forced gybing angles across the area, and with the Rhumb Line also laying at a south easterly slant, this left teams with the decision to either go for a fast Ocean Sprint time and head due south, or go for good Velocity Made Good (VMG) on the course and sacrifice sprint speed.” - Race Director, Dale Smyth

Congratulations to the following three teams on scoring themselves some bonus points:
