Qingdao crew member and Scout Leader George Bayles gave an exclusive tour of his yacht to a local Scout group in Singapore as part of his mission to meet Scouts around the world during his Clipper Race adventure.

Cubs and Scouts from the Tanglin Trust School Scout Group in Singapore as well as the local Beaver group queued up to listen to George’s ocean tales, as he presented them with a UK scouting neckerchief. The eager participants were offered a taste of life at sea as George explained about the watch system and recruited volunteers to have a go on the grinder.

Alison Lovejoy, the Beaver's Leader was impressed by George, “All the Beavers and the leaders had a wonderful time. George was so friendly, welcoming and confident, quite something for a 19-year-old!  George is a true role model to the younger generation of Scouts as he totally embodies the values that we are aiming to install.”

George, of the 2nd South Petherton Scouts in Somerset, is meeting up with local Scouts in various ports around the world, and has already met with scout groups in South Africa, Australia, and Singapore.

George added: “It was great fun showing around the Tanglin Trust School Scout Group. They were all fascinated by my stories and they couldn’t wait to go below deck to see what life on 70 foot ocean racer is really like. They all seemed pretty keen, so who knows maybe we’ve found the Clipper Race recruits of the future.”
