After making a splash on the Clipper Race circuit with a spectacular stopover during the 2017-18 edition, Punta del Este has returned as a Host Port for the second consecutive edition. Building on its success, Punta del Este will be flying the flag for Uruguay on the global race platform with a debut team entry in the Clipper 2019-20 Race.
Dubbed the ‘St Tropez of South America’, Punta del Este is one of South America's most fashionable resorts, and its prime location at the mouth of the River Plate and the Atlantic Ocean makes it the perfect destination for sailing at every level.
A favourite destination amongst Clipper Race Crew and supporters thanks to its warm and friendly welcome, Punta del Este is home to one of the largest sea colonies in the world and its iconic ‘La Mano’, a large-scale sculpture of a hand rising out of the sand and one of the most impressive modern landmarks on the peninsula.
Punta del Este will be using the partnership to develop sailing in Uruguay, a legacy which began during the last edition when Nano Antia, from Punta del Este, became the first Uruguayan Clipper Race Crew to circumnavigate the globe. It will also take advantage of the Clipper Race’s global reach to promote its exceptional tourism qualities and to support its trade and investment initiatives.
For the upcoming 2019-20 edition, Punta del Este is welcoming Santander on board in an official capacity as Team Supporter.
